Rhine Cycle Route Speyer – Worms

This culturally rich stage takes you along the Rhine from the impressive Imperial Cathedral in Speyer to the next Imperial Cathedral in Worms.

From Speyer, you first follow the flood protection dike, passing the modern bridge of the A61. You then cycle past beautiful lakes and the Otterstadt Old Rhine. The natural areas around the old branches of the Rhine are designated as nature reserves and natural flood plains, offering a stunning backdrop.

From Altrip, the route continues along the Neuhofen Old Rhine until you rejoin the cycle path that branches off into the Rhine meadows before Rheingönheim. Alternatively, from Altrip, you can take the right side of the Rhine through a forest park on the Reißinsel towards Mannheim. You then cross back to the left side of the Rhine via the “Mannemer Brigg.”

The route continues along the extensive urban area of Ludwigshafen. Following good signage, you eventually pass the large BASF chemical plant and return to open countryside.

On a beautiful cycle path, either on the flood protection dike or directly along the Rhine, the city of Worms gradually comes into view. Through the Rhine forest, you reach the Nibelungen Bridge and continue cycling into the historic center of Worms to the Imperial Cathedral.
